In a September tweet regarding his appearance at the Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair 2025, YonagoGainax president Takami Akai revealed that the PC version of his “cataclysmic visual novel” adaptation of Sakyo Komatsu’s Japan Sinks novel, Nihon Chinbotsu Desu Yo, has been delayed to 2026. No new date nor release window was announced for the Switch port.
Japan Sinks was published in 1973, and later inspired: two films in 1973 and 2006; a manga that ran from 1973 to 1974; two TV dramas that were broadcast from 1974 to 1975, and in 2021, respectively; a parody film in 2006; and a Netflix anime in 2020.
Nihon Chinbotsu Desu Yo was originally set to release on PC in summer 2025, followed by a Switch port in the fall.
