Ryokutya published an article covering Famitsu’s weekly reviews, and the sole game on Famitsu’s radar this week was HUNTER×HUNTER: NEN×IMPACT. Three of the four reviewers gave the game a 7/10, while the fourth gave it an 8. Famitsu’s reviewers felt the game is chaotic and praised the game for reproducing the charm of the series, but criticized the visuals and lack of characters and stages. Surprisingly, they claimed Nen Impact’s single-player content required 60 hours to clear.
ROCC TALK: What the hell?
Somebody walk me through this. Nen Impact’s roster isn’t suited for an extensive retelling—remember, Pitou isn’t on the base roster. Famitsu’s reviewers called the story “light,” so it can’t be the bulk of this playtime. Single Mode only has two other modes: Heavens Arena and Combo Trials. There’s no way in hell that Combo Trials will be longer than 30 minutes per character, so either Heaven’s Arena is one of the most insanely in-depth mode in a fighting game, the 60 hours refers to 100% completion, or somebody was struggling.
UPDATE: Now that the game is out, I know that Single actually has five modes, not two. 60 hours is still all types of insane. My recorded playthrough of Nen Impact’s story is one hour and 19 minutes (01:59:31 if I include the time it took to make sure I cleared all three story missions per chapter in one go). I made it through 19 of Heavens Arena’s 31 floors in 38 minutes. If Arcade is 8 stages, Time Attack is 3 sets of 5 stages, and Combo Trials take less than 10 minutes per character, I do not believe Battle Olympia (which is unlocked by clearing Heavens Arena) will be over 50 hours. Sorry, but no.
HUNTER×HUNTER NEN×IMPACT launches July 17 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam). Bushiroad is publishing the Eighting-developed game in Japan, while Arc System Works is publishing the game overseas. A demo is available on PlayStation 5 and Steam.
